The odor from the flower is gone,
Which like thy kisses breathed on me;
The color from the flower is flown,
Which glowed of thee, and only thee!
A shriveled, lifeless, vacant form,
It lies on my abandoned breast,
And mocks the heart, which yet is warm,
With cold and silent rest.
I weep ---- my tears revive it not;
I sigh ---- it breathes no more on me;
Its mute and uncomplaining lot
Is such as mine should be.
As the first two lines of the poem say, now the love is gone. So the shape I drew is actually a shape of a petal of the faded violet. The flower language of violet is “falling in love with you in my sweet dreams”, so the violet represents love. I did plenty of color research to find out what colors I really need. And as we can see that the color of the petal is actually divided into different parts. And among each part of the color, I used gradation to make the color mix more softly. The top of this petal is actually a very dark purple. I mixed black, purple, and red to get this color, and obviously the red paint make this color I mixed looks stronger. And I think it is the power of mixing color, and it is also why we needed those color researches. This top mainly represents that this love is going to die day by day. This is where the faded part begins to show. At the left part we can see a pale purple color. I mixed blue, indigo, purple, and white to get this color. This actually represents the sad part in love. And compare to this, at right, we can find that it is a really pinky purple. I mixed red, white, and purple to get this color. This color represents the happy part in love. But now we can see, no matter the sad part (pale purple), or the happy part (pinky purple), they are all covered by the over part of love (dark purple). So this petal, which exactly represents love, is faded and closing to the end.
Since the petal has too many colors, so to compare with the petal, on the right side of my painting I used some dark blue. This actually is a purplish blue which I mixed with purple, indigo, and black. And this represents the emotion of this person whose love is closing to an end. So blue actually means the sad emotion that this person has.
Since we have to use some calligraphy in our drawing, I wrote a Chinese word which means “love” on my drawing. I think it would best describe the main idea of my drawing.
So this is my painting, a story of love, dead love.
