Para2: When I arrived in Taiwan, I felt like being in a foreign country. Although Taiwanese share the same nationality, language, history with us, their culture and habit still have lots of difference from us. I saw Taiwanese’s meticulous and sincerity in many details, so I think they are very lovely. If we compare ourselves with them, we look too urgent to the achievement. I really felt warm in Taiwan since Taiwanese are the people who really love life.
Taipei Palace Museum is the destination I excepted most during this journey. In Taipei Palace Museum, there're so many great collections, even better than the collections in the Forbidden City in Beijing. President Chiang took the about 50 thousand collections from the Forbidden City to Taipei. The most famous collection in Taipei Palace Museum is the The Green Jade Cabbage. The artisan carve the jade with white and green two colors to make this opus, very lively. The two insect on the cabbage represent having many offsprings. Beside the Green Jade Cabbage, there's a stone called Meat-shaped Stone. It looks like a tasty piece of meat, looks very cute. Then we went to the carving craft venue. The opuses in this venue are so great. The artisans in Qing Dynasty had super good craft, the micro-carving opuses is wonderful. The Nut Boat and the Ivory Hamper are the best two opuses. Even the details are clear and lively. A very characteristic venue is the Snuff Bottle Venue. The Kings and the Noblemen of Qing Dynasty love using snuff bottles very much. So the artisans tried hard to make the Snuff Bottle beautiful in order to please their lords. There're so many different kinds of Snuff Bottle in the Venue. Some are made of Jade, some have pretty decoration, some are Western Style. Another Venue that gave my strong impression is the Play-thing Venue. In this venue, the play-things that used to be own by the King are showed. These little things are delicate and creative. Some of them even still keep giving modern designers inspiration.
I spent a great day in Taipei today. We went to Chiufen town in the morning.Chiufen is an old town of Taipei, it has both Japanese and Chinese style. The stores in the town are also characteristic. I bought a pair of clogs in a store. The shop keeper said customers can choose the wooden sole and brocade vamp separately. My mum match a pair of beautiful high-heel sandal for me. In other stores, we bought some traditional craft gifts as well. We had lunch in Amei tea house. Amei means pretty young girl in Chinese. The tea house provide traditional dishes and different types of tea. The environment of the tea house is comfortable, especially the decoration. The tea plate is a shape of mill, very special.
Chiufen is also a town with the culture of gold washing. We went to a factory to experience gold washing process. Two people in a group to pound and rub the raw ore into powder. Then we wash the powder in water. This method is called density centrifugation, use the difference between density soil and metal to separate the soil and rock with metal. We are excited about the metal we finally got, especially Sherry's sister, she was very proud about her result.
I know my title is boring, but forgive my lazy I just want to record our journey by the timeline clearly. Moreover the rest of us may record it in some interesting ways, so it's none of my business(kidding...). Anyway, we have past half of our journey and enjoy it so far. Taiwan is a multiracial area. There're about officially 14 minorities on the island at present. Today we went to a national park where one of the most famous minorities Seediq live.
Truku National Park is one of the four national park in Taiwan. The main characteristic of Tryku National Park is its marble mountain. Because of the lime rock on the mountain, even the stream is grayish, very specific. We had lunch in a local restaurant and ate local dishes. The boar pork is fresh and tasty. In the small restaurant, there're some posters shows people and culture of Seediq. The owner of the restaurant even grows quite a few types of rare plants. The environment of the restaurant makes us feel very comfortable.
Because of the risk of debris flow, we took train to Taipei instead of bus. The train is not very new and more close to our railway. The train run among the mountains and the other side is the ocean. We took for about 50 mins and arrive Taipei. We began our journey in Taipei. My family went to a night market close to our hotel. The market is not very big, but the dishes are delicious. The flavor of the dishes is lighter than those in South Taiwan.
We spent most of the day on the way today, and didn't went to much destinations. So I just share some pictures I took and landscape I saw. The thing leave me strongest impression is the seawater of East Pacific Ocean. The seawater is quite pretty, the color gradation from dusty to cyan, light blue and dark blue. The wave beat the bank gently.
The beach of East Taiwan is also very special. It's not white or yellow, it's grey. The limestone was scoured by the sea year after year, become cobble and sand here. We walked among the beach and got close to the sea. Some of us had a taste of the sea water, it's very salty and bitter.
A big event of today is visiting the Aquarium in Kenting. Kenting is the south most city in Taiwan Island. Taiwan Strait and the east Pacific Ocean meet each other here. In the aquarium, it shows many characteristic sea animal and ecology environment. We took lots of pictures for these animals.
The small store in the aquarium has many cute plush toys. Most of them are very expensive and they are not very useful, so we didn't buy any. But we still took plenty of picture with these cute guys>///<
This Holiday, Kathy, Sherry, Linda and our families came to Taiwan together. This is my first time go on trip with classmates, so I'm very excited. Our Journey is very special, we don't take the normal rate. We will travel among the east coast of Taiwan Island from south to north. The landscape of this rate is very beautiful. The first day, we arrived in Kaosiung. After check-in in the Hotel, we went to the 85 edifice which is the tallest building in Kaosiung. Our tour guide said, we can view the whole Kaosiung on the top floor of the edifice. But the fog today is very thick and made us can't see the view clearly. Then we went to Takao British Consulate. It's the former site of the orginal British Consulate in Kaosiung, a Baroque style House. Inside the house is the Picture Image Exhibition of the history of Kaosiung. There's also a special dungeon which was rebuilt from a storage hundreds years ago. I even found some very interesting souvenir
Taiwan is famous of its snacks. We ate the fish roe sausage and cuttle sausage in Takao British Consulate. In the evening we went to the night fair on Liuhe Road. We saw so many different kinds of snacks on Liuhe Road, especially the distinctive Taiwan snacks. The seafood in the night fair is very fresh, the flavor is a little bit too salty, but tasty. It's very pity that it rain heavily this night, made us not able to enjoy the market best.
Debate is the second unit of speech class this semester. I really love it very much. I was one of the members of class debate team in Middle School so that at least I’m confident about my debate skill. But the biggest challenge is my English; I didn’t know how tough it would be to debate in English.
Through this unit, I’ve been able to debate in English fluently. During the debate I have to think about the reason to support my argument in English. Quickly think and responding is good for improving my English and intelligence. The research before debate is also useful. I myself learnt more about my topic in researching as well. The different topics and other student’s excellent argument also give me some interesting ideas. I learnt a lot in this unit.
I like devil’s advocation very much. Devil’s advocation means I have to argue for the opinion I don’t believe. It’s truly tough, but interesting as well. Since the opinion is the one I’m not familiar to, I have to pay more attention and prepare the argument objectively; it pushes me to improve debate skill and intelligence quicker. Argue for the opposite side also wild my knowledge and thought about the topic. I can learn the strength and weakness for both sides better.
RWBY are the Initial letter of Red, White, Black and Yellow. There’s a new cartoon which will publish in July named RWBY. RWBY is a Gothic action cartoon made by Monty Oum, a staff of famous American cartoon company Rooster Teeth and his team. The pretty scene and fluent action attract lots of audiences look forwards for it very much. Another unique feature of this cartoon is its background music. In the three published trailer, the Gothic music is magnificent and mighty, fit the mysterious story, magnificent action and the theme of violent aesthetics.
The main characters of RWBY are four females. They represent the four colors Red, White, Black and Yellow. From now on, the trailers of Red, White and Black have been published. The audiences can see the disposition and weapons of the three characters.
[Red] real name: Ruby; Weapon: Crescent Rose. In the trailer, Ruby fought with the Beowolves. Her fighting capacity is very strong. The Cliffside Altar she worshiped at the beginning also makes her status mysterious. Theme music: <Red likes roses>.
[White] real name: Weiss Schnee; Weapon: Myrtenaster. The white trailer includes two scenes: one is Weiss singing on the stage; the other one is she fought with an iron knight. The movement of Weiss uses lots of element of dance and figure skating, very magnificent. The sad look of Weiss and “I’m the loneliest of all” in the Lyric makes the audience more curious for her story.
P.S. This article is my practice of This I Believe essay. "Everything" in this article doesn't include the negative things like crime, drug... etc
It started with a really small event. I used to eat Chinese Burrito with deep-fried dough cake as most of Shanghainese do. Once, I was buying breakfast with Dad. He said that he preferred Chinese Burrito with deep-fried dough stick. I was surprised because I never try it. Will Chinese Burrito with deep-fried dough stick be tasty? I’m not sure. The curiosity encouraged me to have a try. So I bought the one the same as Dad’s. To my surprise, it’s even more delicious than the one with deep-fried cake. From that on, Chinese Burrito with deep-fried stick become my favorite. Yesterday, when Granny asked me what I wanted for breakfast, I answered almost immediately: “Chinese Burrito with deep-fried stick.” Granny had the same surprise as I did when I first heard Dad said it. “That’s good, you should try it.” I tried to persuade Granny but seemed she don’t trust me at all. I enjoyed my Chinese Burrito with deep-fried dough stick myself. “You will never know things if you don’t even try.” I said to Granny as well as myself.
