On May 11th, 2009, a U.S. Army sergeant, John Russell, killed his five fellow service members at a combat stress clinic in Iraq.
Yesterday, Russell was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without parole. In his last month’s plea agreement, he described to the court how he killed Charles Springle, Matthew Houseal, Bueno-Galdos, Jacob Barton and Michael Yates Jr. His lawyers argued for him that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and a brain injury. Although, now he doesn’t have to seek the death penalty but he has to stay in prison until he dies.
